Notes from our Head Teacher

Mr. Scott Becker

What an exciting beginning to the new school year! The first four weeks have just blown by, but have been filled with lots of learning and activities. As I have visited the classrooms, I see a lot of good lessons being put into action and eagerness to learn on the part of the students. The students have also shown some positive energy for Dress Up Day, which occurs on the first Wednesday of every month. It’s great to see how sharp the students look, especially when they attend Mass.

This week has been a particularly busy one, with fall pictures, hearing screens, junior high football, Reconciliation as well as 6th, 7th and 8th grade pilgrimage to Trinity Heights in Sioux City. Needless to say, this month has already been full of spiritual, academic and overall wellness for the students. There are many other such activities coming up, with homecoming, parent/teacher conferences, spirit days, the Nebraska Legends programs, and the CCDC program. There will be many other NEW activities coming up in which the students will be able to grow academically, spiritually and emotionally with their classmates, teachers and the community.

The community will be part of our focus throughout the school year. Our theme here at St. Rose of Lima this year is, “Catholic Schools – Celebrating Service.” This will also be the theme for Catholic Schools Week. Service is without a doubt, important to our entire community. But let’s really think about it. Would our school even be here if it wasn’t for the service and volunteering of the numerous community businesses, members and donors? Service and volunteering are at the heart of a thriving Catholic School. It gives the families, parishioners and community a sense of ownership; a sense of accomplishment; a sense of what it means to put your sweat and blood into something that you really believe in.

If you are reading this, I want to make this the first time this year that we here at St. Rose of Lima School thank you for your service, your volunteering and your outstanding commitment to make this a great Catholic School. It’s because of your hard work, sweat and blood that we are thriving and will continue to thrive for years to come. This is YOUR school!
